Some advice not to take
Of course, to make this point I am going to give you some advice. Telling you not to take the advice is advice in and of itself. I know this.
If you are a person like me, who has a mind that almost entirely deals with the literal, writing advice can feel confusing and, at times, confronting.
If you are also a person like me who is consumed with learning, writing, learning about writing and becoming the best writer you can be then you probably find yourself receiving advice often. In articles, from mentors, in classes, on podcasts, at book clubs. And I am here to tell you something which you absolutely know, but haven't given yourself permission to accept.
You don't have to take the advice.
Of course, to make this point I am going to give you some advice. Telling you not to take the advice is advice in and of itself. I know this.
But I also know so many authors who have been hamstrung by poor advice, or advice that simply didn't fit their writing practice.
